Pastor Kevin Broyhill

President

The Lord led Pastor Broyhill to Calvary Baptist Church to serve as Associate Pastor in March of 2006, and then as Senior Pastor commencing in March of 2008. He came to know the Lord as his Savior at the age of 17 and was called to preach the Gospel a year later. Pastor Broyhill studied at Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem, NC and in 1994 graduated from Calvary Baptist Bible College in King, NC with a Bachelor of Theology degree. Prior to coming to Calvary Baptist Church, he served as the Pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC for 16 years. Pastor Broyhill and his wife Lori have two children, Emily and James, who both graduated from CCS.

“As the Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, I am committed to the pursuit of excellence in Christian education that has been the hallmark of CCS over the past 25+ years!”

Mr. Bradley Nagel

Principal

Mr. Nagel grew up in a strong Christian home that attended church on a regular basis. In 1999 at the age of 13 Mr. Nagel received Christ as his personal Savior at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in King. He graduated from Mars Hill University in 2009 and taught and coached there for the next 10 years. Mr. Nagel married his high school sweetheart in 2011, and together they faithfully attended a Bible believing, Gospel preaching Baptist Church. In 2019 Mr. & Mrs. Nagel felt God leading them back to King where they both grew up. Eight weeks later God provided him with a teaching and coaching position at North Stokes High School. When their oldest child was ready to enter kindergarten, the Lord led them to enroll him in CCS and join Calvary Baptist Church. One year later, in June of 2022, Mr. Nagel again followed a clear leading from the Lord to accept an assistant principal position at CCS and begin training to be principal. In June of 2023 the former principal retired and Mr. Nagel transitioned into the role the Lord had been preparing him for.

“My wife Emily and I have been married for 12 years. We have 5 boys, ages 7, 5, 3, 2 and a newborn. We searched for a church and school that teaches sound Bible doctrine, salvation through Jesus Christ, and makes God preeminent in all decisions. We found that at Calvary Christian School and Calvary Baptist Church. I believe wholeheartedly that God moved us from Asheville to King so we could be a part of Calvary Baptist Church and Christian School. We are thrilled to be part of this blessed ministry, and we are excited to see God’s continual work at Calvary.” (Mr. Nagel)

Mrs. Sharon Thompson

HS Spanish & Office Administration

Mrs. Thompson grew up in a strong Christian home and accepted Christ as her personal Savior when she was 9 years old. She surrendered her life fully to the Lord at teen camp, and after high school she attended and graduated from Pensacola Christian College. Mrs. Thompson married her husband Michael in 1989 and later surrendered to God’s call for missions. In 1996 they were appointed as missionaries to Paraguay, South America. After five years of deputation and one year of language school in Costa Rica, Bro. and Mrs. Thompson began their missions work in Paraguay in 2002. They served there until 2013 when the Lord led them to return home to Calvary Baptist in King. During their years of deputation and missions work Mrs. Thompson homeschooled her children while traveling and on the field. During furloughs Mrs. Thompson worked as a substitute teacher at CCS where her children also attended school. We are grateful the Lord led Mrs. Thompson back to Calvary where she taught in our HS for several years. School needs changed and Mrs. Thompson was called upon to shift her responsibilities to office administration, which she graciously agreed to do. Although still teaching Spanish, she now also manages the school office and continues to be a great asset to CCS.

“I am thankful for the opportunity the Lord has provided for me to serve at Calvary Christian School. The teachers and staff have been a blessing to my own family, and I look forward to seeing God work in the lives of the students.”
Mr. Tony Keel

High School Math

Mr. Keel received Christ as his personal Savior in his home in February of 1969 and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1974 with a BS in Math Education. From 1974 until 1986 Bro. Keel taught HS math in Emporia, Blacksburg, and Richmond, Virginia, also serving as principal during part of his 8-year tenure in Blacksburg. In July of 1986, the Lord led Bro. Keel to Calvary in King where he now serves as High School Math and Computer Applications teacher, High School Supervisor and Assistant to the Principal.

"Having taught school for over 40 years, it has been and still is my privilege to try to shape lives for Christ. I am thankful God sent me to CCS to help students develop Godly Christian character."
Miss Dianna Shaffer

High School English & Band Director

Miss Shaffer received Christ as her Lord and Savior on December 24, 2000, during a Christmas Eve service at Trinity Baptist Church in Lake Wales, FL. She later chose to attend Pensacola Christian College, where she majored in English and minored in Music Performance. During high school and college Miss Shaffer played the flute in band, and also in a college symphonic orchestra and a woodwind ensemble. She later earned her Master’s degree in Education from Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, TN. For six years prior to coming to CCS Miss Shaffer taught a variety of 1st thru 9th grade classes and directed the music and drama program at Grace Christian Academy in the Smokey Mountains.

"My passion is teaching and motivating students to fall in love with reading, so they can become capable students of God’s Word. I also love music and enjoy seeing student spirits lifted up to the Lord through godly music during Bible time and chapel."

Mr. Jeremy Black

History

Mr. Black attended Calvary Christian School in King from kindergarten through high school. He received Jesus as his Savior at the age of eight in a revival at Calvary Baptist Church, and after high school he attended Pensacola Christian College where he graduated in May of 2022. Throughout his school years at Calvary Mr. Black maintained a solid testimony as a young man who loved the Lord. We are excited and blessed that the Lord has led Mr. Black to return to his former school in King to teach MS/HS Bible and History.

“The Bible classes I took while at PCC built upon the Biblical foundation I was given during my fourteen years at Calvary Christian School. I am excited for the opportunity I now have to teach at my alma mater.”

Miss Emily Broyhill

MS/HS Science and Girls' PE

The daughter of our own Pastor Kevin Broyhill, Miss Broyhill grew up in a home totally given to ministry. She received Christ as her personal Savior in November of 2008 at the age of 17 and surrendered to the Lord to become a Christian school teacher later during the same school year. After graduating from CCS, Miss Broyhill pursued a secondary education science degree at West Coast Baptist College. She graduated from West Coast and returned to CCS to teach HS Science, where she remained for two years. Miss Broyhill then left the classroom to pursue a second bachelor's degree though Liberty University in preparation for a master's degree in education that she plans to pursue in the near future. After completing her second degree Miss Broyhill returned to teacher 6th grade at CCS more excited than ever to continue in her calling as a Christian-school teacher. After two years in 6th grade the Lord led Miss Broyhill to fill a new vacancy once again teaching MS/HS Science and PE.

"I am very excited to teach at CCS again! I am extremely blessed to be a part of such an amazing ministry!"
Mrs. April Tackett

6th and 7th grade team teacher

Mrs. Tackett grew up at Calvary in King, served the Lord in the bus ministry, and graduated from Calvary Christian High School. She received the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 19 during a Tom Farrell revival at Calvary Baptist Church. Having grown up in a strong Christian home and making an early childhood profession of faith at age six, she had known all her life that God had a special plan for her life. Not long after getting saved as a college student at BJU, she committed her life to be a Christian school teacher. She transferred to and graduated from Piedmont Baptist College in 1998 with her teaching degree. She taught 4th grade here at CCS until 2003 when the Lord led her away, then returned in 2006 to teach 4th grade for five more years. In 2011 Mrs. Tackett moved into the Junior High to teach 7th grade, more excited than ever.

“It is an honor and privilege to be able to teach here at Calvary Christian School, and I am so very pleased that in 2006 the Lord brought me back!”

Miss Amanda Harris

6th and 7th grade team teacher

At the age of seven, Miss Harris’ father talked with her about the Lord, and she received Christ as her personal Savior. After completing high school, she worked for a few years until, in 2019, she sensed the Lord leading her to attend West Coast Baptist College. While at college Miss Harris again sensed the Lord leading her to pursue a teaching degree. In May of 2022 she completed her secondary education degree with concentrations in English and History. Starting in August of 2022, Miss Harris will join the CCS staff to teach History and English to our 6th and 7th grade students.

“I am excited to see what God has planned for me in the next chapter of my life at CCS.”

Mr. John Snow

High School/Middle School Bible teacher

We are excited to welcome Mr. Snow to our teaching staff.  He is a graduate of both our High School and Bible College.  More information to come.

Mrs. Lynette Cave

Learning Resource Center Director

Bro. & Mrs. Cave chose CCS in King because, in her words, “We believed, then and now, that Calvary is the best option for our family.” Later, as we considered her for a vacant 6th grade teaching position, her former principal recommended her with these words: “She is the best - hire her!” We are grateful to the Lord for leading Mrs. Cave to teach 6th grade at CCS, where she excelled for several years. With a great burden for children with special learning challenges, in 2019 Mrs. Cave left the classroom to begin a Learning Resource Center at CCS. Mrs. Cave now serves as the LRC Director and teacher of three MS/HS History classes.

“I was a ‘CCS Mom’ for 6 years, but I was thrilled when the Lord led me to also become a CCS teacher. I love teaching and learning and sharing my excitement for learning with my students at CCS.”

Mrs. Delana Carter

Student Success Director

Mrs. Carter was raised in a Christian home, received Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 5, and graduated from Calvary Christian School in King in 1999. She furthered her education at Surry Community College and graduated from Lees-McRae College with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught 4th and 5th grades for many years and earned a Masters of Education degree in Language and Literacy from Salem College. Mrs. Carter currently teaches at the local community college and will bring her skills to our high school. She joined the CCS staff in August of 2022 as Student Success Director. Her number one focus will be to work with CCS 9th-12th graders, developing Individual Graduation Plans and giving them resources to help them prepare for life after high school.  Mrs. Carter and her husband Wesley are very involved in the King community and in the CCS athletic department. They have three daughters, Salem, Caroline, and Dare, and their family enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and exploring the great state of NC.

“As a Calvary alumnus, my love for this school runs very deep. I’m thrilled to work with our high school students as we develop goals and a plan for each student’s future.” (Mrs. Carter)

Mr. John Foote

5th Grade

At 4 years old, Mr. Foote received Christ as personal Savior at home in his bedroom. Bro Foote later attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, to prepare for full-time ministry, graduating in 1991 with a BA in Pastoral Studies. Bro. Foote worked in evangelism with his father Leon Foote for 16 years until the Lord called him to CCS in 2001 to teach 5th grade. In addition to his outstanding work as 5th grade teacher, John adds something quite extraordinary to our program with his Gospel Magic, puppets, and ventriloquism.

"I have been in more than 50 different Christian schools while in evangelism. CCS in King is clearly the best school that I have ever been a part of."

Mrs. Kacie Sloan

Mrs. Sloan received Christ as her Savior at Power of 2 Youth Camp in Georgia when she was 12 years old.  Ever since Kindergarten, she has had a desire to teach Elementary School. After working as a Teacher's Aid at CCS, the passion for teaching was sealed in her heart. She graduated from Calvary Baptist Bible College with an Early Childhood Christian Education degree in 2022, and we are excited to welcome her to our teaching staff.

"I love teaching at CCS. It is such a thrill to educate children with so much potential for the Lord. It's exciting to watch them grow closer to reaching that potential every day."

Miss Noell Auten

1st Grade

Miss Auten's father had the joy to lead his little girl to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ when she was 6 years old. All through her childhood and teen years Miss Auten longed to be a teacher some day, and throughout junior and senior high she was heavily involved in the children's ministries of her church. While pursuing an elementary education degree at Pensacola Christian College, the Lord used a peer teaching experience to confirm to her that He was indeed calling her to be a Christian school teacher. After graduating from college in 2011, Miss Auten taught in two other Christian schools before joining the Calvary family to teach 1st grade.

"I'm so glad I surrendered to God's call to become a teacher when I was a teenager, and now His call to teach here at CCS. Calvary very quickly felt like home and became another family for me. I cannot wait to see what God has planned for my 1st grade students in the upcoming year."

Mrs. Marilyn Comstock

K5 & Fine Arts Director

Mrs. Comstock trusted the Lord as her Savior in 1974, and a year later she started teaching a 5-year-old Sunday School class. She has been teaching children in churches ever since. The Lord gave Mrs. Comstock the talent and opportunity to write many Vacation Bible School programs and teach them in American churches and in Paraguay and S. Africa. Mrs. Comstock taught K4 here at CCS in King for 15 years and was also our Fine Arts Director for several years. While FA director she wrote and directed American Heritage Fine Arts Programs for our elementary grades and directed several High School dramas. The Lord led Mrs. Comstock away for a couple of years, but brought her back to teach K5 in 2017. Along with teaching the 5-year-old Kindergarten class at CCS, Mrs. Comstock also now teaches an Early Childhood class at Calvary Baptist Bible College in King (“How to Teach the Bible to Pre-schoolers”).

Mrs. Julie Hooker

Art Teacher

For years Mrs. Hooker sensed a void in her life, and she searched to find what was missing. At the age of 29, she attended Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall, NC, where she heard a Gospel message called “It’s So Simple”. On that day she found and received what had been missing in her life. It was Jesus Christ, the only One who could truly fill the void! Since that day, Mrs. Hooker has served the Lord through many different ministries at church while homeschooling her daughter. She has an Associate Degree in Architectural Technology and has had her own drafting and design business for 30 years. She taught art classes in the homeschool

co-op for many years working with all ages of students, and brings that experience to Calvary. She joined our Calvary staff as elementary / middle / high school art teacher in the fall of 2018, and has done a wonderful job for the Lord and for our students. In Mrs. Hooker’s art classes kids discover their hidden talents, prepare entries for the NC Fine Arts competition, and have fun. Everyone loves art class at CCS because of Mrs. Hooker.

“The Lord has given me a love for kids and for teaching. I’m happy to

be serving the Lord by teaching art here at Calvary. I love helping the students hone their artistic and creative abilities. It is a great privilege to part of the CCS team.”
